Question
When we first got to know about the huge loss caused due to a butterfly species in Kerala, we were taken aback. Before we thought butterflies were those which just fascinated us, but after knowing this shocking fact that the larvae of a butterfly has destroyed about 200 square kilometer of banana plantation, we were forced to think about How is this larvae is able to destroy plantations? We were told by our Biology teacher that ‘Every problem the nature creates, it creates it with a solution’. This thought created another Big question in our minds, Is there any solution to this problem?
Proposal
We were told that nobody had ever found any predator or any other infection to either the larvae or the eggs. We, after days of continuous on-ground research, have discovered some natural predators to the larvae and we have created a completely organic pesticide which is made by using extracts from a few common weeds. And also we were enlightened by a new technology called the CRISPR, Genome Editing , which could indirectly kill antibiotic resistant bacteria. We strongly feel Genome Editing, by using technology like CRISPR, is an effective solution to the problem.
